As you may have noticed, we have not been updating this blog lately. It isn't because there aren't enough beautiful things in the world- it's quite the contrary as there are so many things to keep track of! We have decided to end this blog and start our own.  Paul has already started his and I am still working on a concept/trying to play catch up with life (took me long enough to post this)!  I wanted to post the Dior blog because I couldn't resist, but I will be up here to announce my move as soon as I have a concept set up.  Thanks for reading!

Did everyone see these gorgeous shots of the Dior headquarters (Paris) at its public unveiling?! Beautiful.

Badgley Mischka Spring 2012

By fbffs · September 15, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

I swear every season Badgley and Mischka scream at the girly girl not-so-hidden in me!  I love the spring and mermaid-y colors in the peplum, organza, brocade, and oversize bow-filled collection. Women's Wear Daily didn't see a cohesive ness but I agree that I love the finale dresses (2nd row, middle). I had a hard time choosing a favorite but I've determined the row of aqua below is the most amazing of the amazing

Get Mad, Men

By fbffs · August 9, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

I cannot think of a single TV show that has inspired me as much as Mad Men has to completely turnover my wardrobe, shoes, and accessories.

Some facts:

  • I had the urge to polish my shoes after finishing an episode last night
  • I desperately want to replenish my collection of shirts with french cuffs
  • I desperately want a collection of cuff links
  • Fedoras give me the slightest tendency to swoon (onto a fainting chair - watch the "Seven Twenty Three" episode)
  • I aspire to one day have a wet bar in my office (though I suppose that wouldn't be a good idea in a hospital)
Which is why this is so exciting:

Now look at these things! All-of-which-I-want:

Who needs three-piece suits when you have fabulous sweater vests and cardigans?
Office chic has never looked so good. Also, I'm resolved to start wearing bow ties to work now.
I can't even begin to imagine what I'd do if my boss dressed like this.
I realize now that I've included all the men's looks that were previewed. But I love them all! In fact, I feel incredibly compelled to buy a mac jacket and numerous sweater vests.
Get yourself to the nearest (participating) Banana Republic August 11th.
And lastly, take a minute to admire how dapper these gentlemen look:

Too Cool for Prada Fall 2011

By fbffs · August 8, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Honestly, I feel a little obsolete posting this, seeing as Fall 2011 is basically here (at least according to the calendar fashion magazines go by.) It seems the rest of the blogosphere has pretty much been there, posted this.

But lucky for you, I don't care about being redundant! At least when it comes to things as magical as Prada.

I was walking down Grant Avenue last weekend, shopping downtown, when I saw this from across the street, in the Prada window display (but 50 times larger, and consequently 500 times more fabulous):

There is just too much cool, youthful angst going on in this one photo. Of course the accompanying video (shot by Steven Meisel) shows an equal amount of nonchalance over wearing green, snakeskin Prada boots and furry swimming caps. As well as an inordinate amount of time focused on fastening oversized buttons.

I am in Love with Banana Republic's Mad Men Collection

By fbffs · August 2, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

I am so excited for the Banana Republic Mad Men collection to come out this month! I haven't even seen the show, but its on my list of shows to start soon.

I love preppy and classic pieces such as shift dresses, pearls, blouses and patterned dresses and this retro spin is absolutely charming! I love almost every piece here, but my favorites are definetely the navy houndstooth dress above (fabulous color, pattern and cut) and the lace blouse (first photo).  I just hope these pieces will be affordable (I can report the houndstooth dress will be $175 and since its the cover of their ad campaign, I anticipate it will sell out first)!

Did you hear about Banana Republic's Mad Men collection? I am crazy in love with that houndstooth dress above.  Well, Gilt Groupe has a sneak preview for members to shop the collection early! Unfortunetly, it doesn't include that dress or else I would have snatched it up! The sale ends this Wednesday.  If you're not a member yet, here's my link. Happy shopping! I want to hear what everyone bought!

P.S. I will be posting the entire collection later.  It's on my to-do list!

Queen Elizabeth II Not Happy With Royal Gown Display

By fbffs · July 22, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

From Women's Wear Daily:

LONDON — Queen Elizabeth had one word for the display of royal bride Kate Middleton’s wedding dress at Buckingham Palace on Friday: “Horrible.”

During a walk-through of the summer exhibition, which features the royal wedding gown, shoes, tiara, and even the couple’s multi-tiered cake, the queen examined the dress, which is shown in the dimly-lit ballroom, with the tiara and veil floating above it.

Press Association, the only outlet that followed the Queen and her new granddaughter-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge, on their private tour of the show, reported that the monarch was “spooked” by the display. The duchess was wearing a Joseph crepe de chine “Athena” dress that retails for 180 pounds, or $293, and Jim Choo “Lovely” shoes that retail for 330 pounds, or $538.

“The monarch led the way and, with her hands clasped behind her back, strode into the ballroom and stopped about 10 feet from the dress with Kate standing beside her.

“As the pair chatted, the pitch of the Queen's voice raised and she said ‘horrible’ and then ‘horrid.’ It appeared the mannequin's lack of a head may have perturbed the Queen, who added: ‘It's made to look very creepy,’” the media outlet reported.

The duchess took a more diplomatic tack, saying the dress display had a “3D effect.” She already saw the display earlier in the week when she joined some of her wedding party for a private viewing.

Buckingham Palace was responsible for curating the show, “The Royal Wedding Dress: A Story of Great British Design,” which opens Saturday and runs through October 3, A McQueen spokesman declined to comment on the Queen’s reaction.

The ivory satin gazar dress is the centerpiece of the summer exhibition. “It was a feat of engineering,” said Burton of the dress she created for royal bride. “It needed to be light,” but it also had to keep its shape and not crumple on itself when she walked down the aisle.

Burton spoke about her creation during a 5-minute video. The show is part of the annual summer opening at Buckingham Palace. An exhibition of Faberge eggs and objects belonging to the British royal family is also taking place as part of the summer show.

In the video, Burton describes the process of designing the gown, pointing out that six different types of lace were used, each with a different motif, and that the aim of the overall design was to, “Look to the past, but also to the future. There are Victorian and Arts and Crafts references, but we used a very modern way of cutting, and the fabric is light.”

Caroline de Guitaut, curator of the exhibition, said it was the duchess’ choice to put the dress on display at Buckingham Palace.

"The Duchess considered a number of options, and then decided that she would like it to be displayed here at Buckingham Palace which of course was the scene for the celebrations after Westminster Abbey, so it is very fitting that it should be shown here exactly where the reception took place.”

Some 500,000 visitors are expected this summer, which would outstrip the record 449,000.

Paris Fall 2011 Couture: Givenchy

By fbffs · July 10, 2011 · 0 Comments ·
The last of my Fall 2011 couture posts, I promise.
Isn't it all so beautiful? The whole collection is only 11 looks, but I imagined more because they're so intricately embellished and provocative with the tulle cutouts. I think this should be at the top of everyone's mind when thinking about great representations of couture - dressmaking and high fashion design at its best.

Paris Fall 2011 Couture: Elie Saab

By fbffs · July 10, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

A bed of clouds on the skyline of a starry twilight. Cheesy image, yes I know. Such is why I will never truly be a writer. I just had to think of something, though, to describe how remarkably ethereal, lustrous and elaborate this couture is. I think I absolutely loved every piece on that runway. Which is why I encourage you to give it a look-see yourself. What I especially love is the consistency of this collection, how dramatically each gown builds on the last, yet the momentum never gets boring. It completely works on every level, right down to the inconspicuously beautiful bridal gown of the last look.
